Hi Cory, You hit the nail on the head. Your licensure difficulties are directly tied to where you live - and the number of laws there that impact firearm ownership.

I had given some thought to getting a C&R, but after reading up on the subject on the ATF site ( http://www.atf.treas.gov/firearms/curios/index.htm ), and hearing some of the horror stories from license holders, I opted not to bother..... Seems like the only real benefit to having one is being able to buy and take possession out of state, and if you have a local FFL dealer that you deal with regularly, it's worth the transfer fees to have stuff shipped in, and saves you from a lot of un-necessary scrutiny, not to mention a lot of headaches. I don't need the headaches, ya know? Wheelgun>>>---------------->straight shooter! ;^) |

Most C&R holders never SEE an ATF employee. . .ever. Just food for thought. Adam Adam C. Firestone Editor-in-Chief CRUFFLER.COM http://www.cruffler.com |

I know I havent even got my c&r yet but I have a question . If I decide not to renew my license after the 3 yr period do I have to give up my firearms ? Can I transfer them to my local PD license ? |

The short answer is, no you don't have to give them up. However, I believe that if you have a local requirement for registration (such as NY's handgun requirements) then you still have to register the guns with the local PD. I've heard of people receiving the gun, going to get a purchase document from the local PD to themselves, and bringing the gun in to be put on the pistol license. Of course, here in the Old Dominion, we don't have any of these issues. . . . . . Adam C. Firestone Editor-in-Chief CRUFFLER.COM http://www.cruffler.com |

The other advantage of the C&R license, for many holders, is that you are able to get discounts from sources such as Brownells. (Discounts there, alone, saved me several times the $30 fee in the first year...)

And most LEO's don't know that at least with Brownells give the same discount to "peace officrs". |

After the 3 years, and lets say you don't renew the C&R...can you still get visits from the ATF? Are they going to be visiting me until I'm 75 years old? checking up on my firearms purchased under the C&R? If so..I don't think I want C&R. I would rather live in peace when I'm 75
