Looking for a little help on the 50 year rule. I've found non-military 22cal bolt gun that I'd like to purchase. Nothing special about it other than some sentimental value. Production of this model stopped in '37. The dealer states that since it is not specifically mentioned on the BATF's list, it is not eligible and that the 50 yr rule only applies to mil surp's. I can find no distinction in the rules that makes the dealer correct. While in the end, if he doesn't want to ship it as a C&R there's not much I can do about it but am I missing something somewhere?? Thanks for any help, Tom http://www.yrpc.org |

The dealer is incorrect. Check the ATF site for federal code and updates to the C&R list. Print the sections you need or carry the 5100.3 list and updates. Example: all Colt Woodsman and same-type pistols made prior to 1978 are eligible as C&R, and all commercial US shotguns, long guns and handguns made prior to 12/31/1953. |

Plus some newer guns, as the "instant collectible" Colt SAAs, Scout 22s & Winchester 94s made in the 60s & 70s, & some others more recently. By all means, check the vurrentC&R list & related instructions per Mohavesam's post above. That's good info. |
