I have a Beretta model 1934. The year of manufacture on this model is usually stamped on the left side of the slide, but this one says: (194C-XVIII). What does that mean? |

Hi Kevin,
I'll use my new found Beretta knowledge to guess that the digit you call C is a badly formed 0. That would make it the year 1940 followed by XVIII, Mussolini's callout for 1940. The Fascist calendar began in October 1922. 1922 + 18 = 1940.

Does that mean my Titan with XXII was made in 1944? I know you said previously that it meant 1966.

Hi Kevin,
Please reread my Titan post to Joeb1 apologizing for jumping to the conclusion that the Fjestad's postwar proofmark roman numerals I quoted first were the same as the Fascist's prewar roman numerals I mentioned later. I didn't know two similar systems were at play.
The prewar m1934 uses the Fascist coding.
The postwar Titan uses the proofmark coding.
Your prewar m1934 made in 1940 is XVIII.
The Fascist calendar started Oct 1922, +18=1940.
Your postwar Titan made in 1966 is XXII.
The new proofmark started 1944, +22=1966.
I'm starting to hate roman numerals. :-)
