I have an EIG Titan .25acp. Made in Italy, imported by EIG. 7 round magazine, 13 oz. I do not know how old this gun is, It was my fathers, he died in 1988 so the gun history died with him. other guns he owned were purchased new in the 1940's. Anyone know what year it was made or how to find out? |

Hi Kbondra, I have a Titan .25 made by FIE, Miami, FL. FIE started making Titans in the USA after the 1968 Firearms Act banned the import of such pistols. Q1) Are you sure of the EIG name? I don't see it on the right side. Q2) Can you post a photo of the left side and close ups of markings? That XXII on the frame is a Mussolini device that started renumbering the calendar based on his reign. The new calendar of manufacturing dates started in 1944 so XXII means 1966, per page 1515, 21st Edition, Blue Book of Gun values. Sure is fun doing this kind of research! Herb Fredricksen |

I had an FIE Titan.25 auto, and it was a fluke!I mean that it shot to point of aim at 25 yards...I bet if you'd opened a hundred boxes of those little guys, you wouldn't find another that did it.Or maybe the FIE company did it on purpose, though I don't see a real market for fixed sight .25 auto pocket target pistols.Won some bets and startled some folks with that little gun. |

Herb, What is the value of the Titan if it was made in 1966? I'll post a picture of the opposite side when I get home from work. I am pretty sure it says EIG. Kevin |

Willyboy, This Titan is the same way. It does not jam, even with modern hollowpoints, plus, I can hit what I'm aiming at. Kevin |

Hi Kevin, I bought the FIE Titan for $90 from a dealer I liked. I paid too much flat out but there were no extra fees or taxes and it looked good and fit my vestpocket collection without breaking the budget. $100 or less is a sweet spot for any vestpocket or breaktop I see. The week before I bought a CZ Duo from him, same price, that was a better deal. These things average out. R L Wison Price Guide says: Fair/VG/Exc; Tanfoglio Titan Italy $25/50/75 Hermanos Titan Spain $75/100/125 Fjestad Blue Book says: 80%/90%/100% Fie Titan (E27 series) $35/40/60 FIE Titan (E38 series) $30/35/50 Schwing's 2002 Standard says $50/75/100. Considering today's market that justifies the price I paid. I'm sure I've seen other listings that agreed. Mine is well made and looks good. Sorry about the double post. Happens too easily. Hi Kevin, That trademark says it was made by Tanfoglia Giuseppi of Brescia Italy and imported by E.I.G. of Miami FL before 1968. Any Titans made afer that were made in the USA under the F.I.E. name. Tanfoglia is still in business but E.I.G and F.I.E are not. Info per pages 176 and 73 of Robert Balderson's Official Guide to Gun Marks. First use of that book, glad I had it on hand. Herb, Thanks for the info. You are a genious. So your previous message says it is only worth $75.00 in excellent condition, seems like it should be worth more. Kevin |

Hi Kevin, Thanks for the compliment. I benefit daily from the expertise of others and try to repay the favors whenever I can. The books I've referred to have changed me from "always asking to sometimes answering." Feels good! You'll notice the publication dates of the three price books I mentioned go from 2000 to 2002 so all those may be off and current prices may be higher. The latest, Schwing's 2002, listed 6 conditions and I showed only the top 3, VG/$50, Exc/$75 and NIB/$100. Even if these pistols have grown in resale value by 20% in the last year or so it wouldn't raise the above figures very much and would have less effect on the lower figures quoted earlier. Many economy pistols, like these vest pockets, and many terrific breaktop revolvers, start low and stay low, making them easy collectibles. I learn a lot from them and can always upgrade (spend lots more money) later. I've bought some wonderful vestpockets at 1/3 their real value and breaktops at 1/2 their value. As long as everybody else buys only what the gun rags tells them to buy these little gems will remain bargains. Of course, if you're trying to sell one you have to settle for what the market will pay. $75-$100 looks reasonable to me. I'm eager to see how it shoots after reading WillyBoy's glowing report. Your results agree with his. My Beretta 21A is a tack driver so I have high hopes for the Titan. I sure won't sell it if it does well. It would be exactly what a small pistol was designed to be, inexpensive, last ditch, close up personal protection in a nasty world. Herb Fredricksen |

Funny story,I took mine to an ''unofficial range''[a ravine outside of town]and there was a fellow with one of those mats you lie down on to shoot, with his head cradeled by his off hand, and a shot filled bag protectin his right knee, shooting a Contender in.22l.r.and his case was covered in marksmanship medals.About twenty five yards off was a Lowenbrau bottle[this was a LONG time ago]that he was missing. It really didn't look like that hard of a shot to me.Out of deference to his medals, and the fact he'd been there first,I asked ''mind if I take a shot at it?''He looked down his nose at my $69.00 FIE Titan.25 auto and said ''sure''so I shot it in half.He looked kinda surprised ,looked at his Three hundred dollar scoped pistol and said ''must be the scope's off...''so I asked if I could see his pistola? Then popped the neck[all that was left]useing HIS pistol, two handed, standing. He snatched his gun back, and left, without another word! Now I know it sounds like a brag, and it is but on the pistol not me.I'm only an average shot, and ANYBODY could have hit it with a scope! What impressed me was that the .25 shot so well.Wonder where he got all those medals? |

It's about this "Year of Mussolini" dating system. I have a Model 1934 Beretta, clearly stamped both 1941 and XIX. This doesn't match the prior posted message that suggests that XXII=1966. What might be happening here? |

Hi Joeb1, Thanks for questioning the dates. I knew there was an explanation for Kevin and thought it was Fjestad's list. I should have looked further. The Fascist Rule began October 1922, year I. The model 1934 produced in 1935 was stamped XIII. Your 1941 Fascist piece is stamped correctly XIX. Fjestad's doesnt explain this but his Year of Mfg. dates matches a newer system of proof marks, 1 or I being 1944, 9 or IX being 1953, X being 1954, XXII for 1966, etc through XXX for 1974. Then proof dates switched to letters, AA for 1975, AB for 1976, with jumps for odd letters. Kevin's postwar Titan proofmark XXII means 1966. I was wrong to tie it to Mussolini's reign. This is a learning experience for me: My 1934 .380 is dated 1941, no Roman numerals. My 1935 .32 is dated 1944, no Roman numerals. My 418 .25 is dated 1947, no Roman numerals. My 418 .25 is dated 1954, no Roman numerals. My 948 .22 is dated 1954, no Roman numerals. Trying to be an expert is very tiring. Beer time! Looks like I need to expand my library, too. :-) Herb Fredricksen |
