Ladies and Gentlemen, A friend of mine recently received a handgun from a relative that he passed on to me for identification. It appears to be of Asian origin and has no manufacturers identification. The only markings are a crudely hand stamped number "196" on the receiver and an apparently oriental proof mark or symbol on the slide. It has slab sided flat wooden grips and is assembled with pins. The pistol measures 9-1/2" overall length x 4-7/8" tall x apx. 1" thick and weighs apx. 2-1/2 lbs. The finish contains many crude tool marks and appears to have remnants of bright metal plating. It will chamber, but will not eject a 7.63 Mauser round. I am not brave enough to fire it. Pictures are available via e-mail, as I can't figure out how to include them in a post. Help! I have recently come by an interesting new(old) firearm and I would like to know a little something more about it. I've looked and looked all over the internet and I can't find a single piece of info. It is a J&R engineering M-68 9mm carbine. The reciever is rectangular with a charging handle on top like a mac-10. The overall appearance of this piece is a cross between a wilkinson arms "linda" and a mac-10. It is machined from a solid forging and is very well made. The barrel is very heavy and affixed to the reciever with a large knurrled bushing. Also, there is a cone type flash supressor. The furnature is American walnut and the bluing is quite nice. The place of manufacture is South El Monte, CA. I've been an exotic weapon enthusiast since I was a kid and I've never heard of such a beast. Does anyone know when this weapon was manufactured? How long it was produced? Why the company went out of business? Has anyone ever owned one? Shot one? Any info at all? well it was worth asking. any info would be apreciated.
