Hello to all. I am a new user here on cruffler and need some help. I recently purchased a Ballester Molina in 22lr and I am trying to find out how many were made, when they were made etc. etc.. This variation is recognized in the "blue book" but i can find absolutely nothing on the web in the way of info. Also, does anyone know the real story on the British Ballester Molina's?
Do they have two serial numbers on them? One that has the prefix "B" and the other on the grip where all ballester's are numbered. Are there "fakes" out there. I ask because today I came across one with a serial number B63xx on the right side of frame and a different number on the grip. The gun has the British proof marks. The B63xx number doesn't coincide with the serial number range in an article I read in the cruffler archives a few minutes ago. Please help if you can. I am really concerned about fakes. You see, I bought this gun today. Could still cancel. I hope!!!!!

Have never seen any numbers on the HAFDASA pistols. However, it has been reported that production began in the 1930s in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Some .22cal versions were marketed under the name "La Criolla". Up until very recently, the .45cal versions could be ordered from Century and others, for as low as $169. Certainly a good value for a serviceable shooter. During WWII some of the .45s were issued to the US Office of Strategic Services for use in clandestine ops.

ROY,
I THANK YOU FOR YOUR REPLY. NOT GETTING MUCH RESPONSE HERE. I HOPE IT ISN'T ALWAYS LIKE THIS.
I HAVE A BALLESTER RIGAUD, BALLESTER MOLINA, BALLESTER 22LR, BRITISH BALLESTER MOLINA(HAVE NOT RECEIVED YET) AND A COLT SISTEMA. NO NUMBER ISSUES ON ANY OF THEM EXCEPT THE BRITISH B/M. I WOULD SURE LIKE TO FIND SOME INFO ON THE 22LR MODEL AND THE BRITISH MODEL. BOTH GUNS HAVE NO IMPORT MARKS AND ARE IN MINT CONDITION. THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUR REPLY.

Hrpuffn, I think that more will be written about the Argie Colts and their clones when supplies dry up and prices rise. I have been watching milsurp for many years and have observed that while supplies are elevated and prices low, it is difficult to get interest going in most models. Conversely, as soon as supplies begin to dry up and prices rise, lots of interest abounds and articles begin to appear concerning the disappearing model. This happened not too long ago in regards to the Swede Model 96 rifles, which at their peak of availability were selling for as little as $69 each. This, for fully operable, accurate rifles. Now it is very difficult to find a Swede 96 for under $200 and there is much interest seen in buyers trying to locate good clean copies. The Argie Colts and their clones made in Argentina are, as you know, very rugged pistols and even now, very inexpensive(I received an ad yesterday showing Ballesters for $269, some having three matching numbered mags!

Regarding this matter of the BAllesteres,I own two of them one 11,25 mm(.45) and one .22.Bothe of them bear Serial Nš on the lower right side of the grip and on the inner part of the slide.I never heard of the so called "La Criolla" but I did see one very alike the BAllester .22 called "El Camaleon" Some Ballesteres carry the name Ballester Rigaud and the ones built around mid 40's are called BAllester Molina both in .45 and in .22.
Nice to read this site.Regards to all of you

Sorry, I ment the lower LEFT side of the grip.By the way,Establecimientos Venturini modified some Sistemas (built by Fabricaciones Militares) to .22 cal in order to lower the training cost of the Buenos Aires province Police.
