I'm looking for some info on 762x25 ammo, I have heard horror stories about some of it destroying firearms. I have a few different kinds,,and wondering if there is any knowledge out there on it ?
1st) unknown orgin, brass case and the head stamp is 11 on top and 54 on bottom
2nd) unknown , Green steel case, came on 8 round stripper clips, it came in a green wood crate head stamp is OYM (?) on top and 53 on bottom
3rd) unknown..but someone sated it Polish ??? Brass case, came in a wood crate of 1600 rounds, had 2 steel- lead containers (not the usual stel tins )
the ammo came in a paper wrapper, with a string tied around it, 16 rounds in a paper container
the wood crate is marked 762mm NABOJE ??
the paper glued to the inside said.. l/l H CTPYKU l/l and a backward R at the end.... the head stamp is 54 on top and a oval with ITL inside ??

Recon, there are several different loads . There is 30 cal mauser which is also called 7.63 x 25 i think, there is 30 cal russian,(7.62x25) and 30 cal luger. All are a bottleneck design. The russian and mauser cartridges are considered interchangeable by some. DO NOT SHOOT 30 CAL LUGER in a gun meant fot 30 cal mauser such as a broomhandle. You will get the disastrous you talked about.

7.62 X 25 made by the Russians is an adaptation of 7.62 x 25 mauser made a generation ago. They are virtually the same ammunition, differing by (from drawings) 0.001 in one dimension.

See: http://www.geocities.com/Yosemite/Gorge/4653/

also go to Tokarev.com

these sites serve as good primers for Tokarevs and CZ 52's

I shoot Seller & Bellot 7.62 x 25 commercial ammo and my own reloads with cast bullets. I also have shot surplus but since it was corrosive, prefer my reloads. Winchester makes a whitebox product for 7.62 x 25 and it is excellent and boxer primed-and it is made by Sellier & Bellot.

Yodar, Thanks for the info and sites, very good
Since I have a few cases of each...I wanted to find out something about them...

I also heard Bill Berg say that the hot 762 ammo is destorying his PPSH, and will not use it anymore !

So, I will try and get more info on these particlar head stamps and see what it can be used for.. safely....

I have used S&B before and it works find,,,I was trying to buy surplus for the cost....but as were finding out,,,it's not always cheaper in the long run !

Thanks..Recon
