Anyone know of a site where I can look up any info on my Persian Mauser? No biggie, just curious if I can find any history based on the s/n. Description: Here's what I've got: Left Side of Receiver: Arabic Numerals: 05619 then a character I don't recognize. (Obviously s/n) Under that in western numerals, obviously newer: C05619 To right of that: A phrase in Arabic script I can't read. Stamped into wood on left of butt: "E.S.A." with "4" under the "S" Another stamping to rear of that: "35" On right of receiver, running vertically: Crown . X . (arabic letter) (arabic letter) 12 (in arabic numerals) Stamped into wood on right side of butt: s/n in arabic numerals Another stamping to rear of that: (4 or so more arabic letters) On bolt handle: s/n in arabic numerals On top of receiver: "Imperial" (misnomer) Persian crest (sunburst/lion w. sword/within crowned wreath) On bottom of barrel near muzzle: SAMCO MIA FL M98/29 CZECH 7.92MM (obviously import stamp for SamCo, Miami FL -- not sure why it says "Czech") Stamped into wood in bolt channel: 8 7 -0- |

Your "Persian" Mauser bears the crest of Iran, and is therefore an Iranian Mauser; this means that the lettering on it is Persian, not Arabic. The reference to Czech ammo means that it was made in Brno, Czechhoslovkia in the 1930's. Iran had their own calander then, so you'll need someone who reads Persian to interpret it correctly for you. All the other "stuff" on it is from the USA importer meeting legal requirements. |
